Next time I go bragging about how well my littlest angel is, please put a sock in my mouth. I should have learned my lesson after bragging about how easy this fourth kid would be: how hard can one (one!) little baby be? Hmmm, pretty hard.
Late Wednesday evening, after the bronchoscopy and my blog-brag, Samson had a fever and seemed miserable. This was the beginning of a downward spiral that brought us to the ER at Doernbecher on Thursday morning. Coughing, vomiting, fever, general extreme misery. He cried most of yesterday but is now sleeping, exhausted, on his bed. I cried most of yesterday too because one of my hard-won victories in the hospital was finally getting the nursing staff to give us a bed, instead of a crib. Which means that neither of us has to sleep in a crib. We hate cribs. And if you haven't slept in one lately, let me assure you, you hate them too. Anyway, my usually mild-mannered husband helped me throw a fit that resulted in a bed for our baby. And Samson is happy in it.
The bronchoscopy results have started to come back, and turns out he had yet another flourishing bacterial infection in his lungs. So antibiotics have been adjusted, broadened really, to deal with this type of bacteria. We are also covering him for a possible blood infection, since he is sick and has had an IV in, which can be another source of infection. We are also starting IV immune globulins, which is a blood product that helps fight infections -- providing something Samson's body is not doing on its own. Dr. Nemecek, the bone marrow transplant doctor, would like to delay our entry into the hospital for transplant for one week -- so start conditioning the week of April 5 now. That is fine with me, because it means we will all be home for Easter weekend. The rest of the schedule remains the same.

OH, poor guy! I hope the infection clears up soon! Glad you raised a stink about the bed. You have to be the best advocate for your child because no one else will do it for you.
