Another week

We are back home now starting another week and, after a pretty sick weekend, Samson is perking up again. Lots of smiles and laughs today. Nevertheless, I decided to wait on the sedation and CT scans that were set for tomorrow. I want him feeling a little better before he has to have another day of not eating, getting anesthesia, then recovering. It takes a lot of energy. Since the transplant is pushed back a week, we have enough time to reschedule without throwing us off.

This hospital stay was an especially hard one. I had some discouraging conversations with the doctors based on the tests we did last week, and, in a possibly related turn of events, my fuse was shorter than usual.

The tests: The bronchoscopy of course grew new bacteria, which was frustrating after weeks on IV antibiotics. And the pulmonary function tests showed that Samson's lungs are operating at about 50 percent of what they should be. This of course negatively impacts the doctors' expectations for Samson during the bone marrow transplant. We are still waiting on results of the repeat marrow biopsy.

My fuse: What to say except that I apparently cannot adjust to caring for my child in the hospital. That place makes me berserk.

Harriet goes in for her marrow donor evaluation tests on Wednesday. We shopped for mermaid paraphernalia on Sunday and spent a lot of time this weekend going over the details of the procedure: depart home with mermaid gear, get arm poke, take hospital nap, get another poke, wake up. Samson is going to stay home with Kandis, but Aaron and Cash are coming to the hospital for the big event. Stay tuned.
